- Lindsay all wrapped up in Arvella
Whenever we get a new color in an existing yarn, my fingers start itching to play. When we got an even dozen of new Silk Cloud colors, I got greedy. Why do a neckpiece with one color when I could play with three?!
I came up with a tube structure, utilizing Silk Cloud held double. Yarn management can be tricky with: A. lace weight, B. mohair, and C. multi-strands. Hence, a simple construction, kept from being completely mindless by the above issues; a colorblock accessory that can be worn a multitude of ways was born.
The hardest part of this design was, of course, coming up with a suitable name for the pattern. If you look on ravelry, every kind of silk and/or cloud metaphor has been utilized, so I decided to call in the big guns. I offered up a chuck roast (I have cows; if you've ever looked in Shibui Luxury, those are MY cows, which I obnoxiously point out to anyone who will listen) as a prize, in house, for the best name.
The entries came fastly and furiously; the only way to narrow the field was to do ravelry searches. The only entry that was not already a ravelry pattern was Arvella, which, interestly, is "ravelry" in word scramble. Kind of, anyway.
William, our inventory manager, submitted the name. Arvella was his glamorous California-based aunt, and in the family photo he shared with us, it was easy to pick her out. There was a certain sense of style about her; and she was the sole accessorizer in the group. We had a winner, and William had a barbecue item.
There are so many color combinations that would serve up deliciously in this little pattern. I am a sucker for both of the new grays, and it combines beautifully with Blush, as shown; you could do a beautiful Fall combination with Flaxen, Rust, and Artichoke; or a pale version in Ivory, Ash, and Green Tea. Explore the possibilities!
Totally agree here. I saw the scarf and all the wonderful colors at Knit-Purl this afternoon. Absolutely delicious, heavenly :D Love the colored-scarf.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin,
ReplyDeleteI always found my grandma knitting for her grand sons and daughter. And we love wearing her hand made woolen things because not only they were comfortable but added her love for us.
