- Lindsay in Manzanita
I love the idea of layering knitwear, but as we all know, sweater upon sweater can quickly lead to too much bulk. Manzanita was conceived as a base layer to build upon, and since it is executed in silky Staccato, this little shell will work well with the other pieces in Texture. Knit in one piece, top down, this wardrobe staple will knit up quickly; I am already envisioning one in Suit....or maybe Artichoke? The dyes in Staccato are gorgeous; the silk makes the colors glow.
Once again, a bit of detailing takes this from a basic to extraordinary. Cable detailing incorporates buttonholes at the neckline; wear it buttoned up or open. A false seam at the side is framed with suble shaping, and a deep band of seed stitch ribbing mirrors the ribbing at the collar.
And yes.....the name is derived from yet another Oregon Coastal town. Why would the Spanish word for “little apple” be the name of a coastal resort town, platted in 1912? I did a little digging, and discovered that the Manzanita is a common shrub along the coast....the common names of Kinickanik or “Hairy Manzanita” seemed less romantic of a moniker for this pretty little piece!
Check out Manzanita on ravelry and stay tuned for more Texture!
