- Reeder models Reed
When designing for Shibui Toddler, I knew that I wanted a great mix of garments for both boys and girls, and Reed fits the bill perfectly. This dapper v-neck cardigan reminds me of ones my dad likely wore in his days at Harvard. This sweater has a very scholarly feel, while still being practical and playful enough for the most active tyke.
Like Lexi, last week's preview garment, Reed has front pockets that are worked directly from the body using unique construction techniques, while keeping the finishing requirements of this garment to a minimum. The body and sleeves are both worked from the bottom-up before they are joined to create the raglan shoulder detail.
I love the simplicity of the stockinette stitch in this garment as it shows off the fluid colors of the Shibui Merino Worsted beautifully. Not only is the yarn gorgeous, but it is also superwash, making this cardigan as practical for the playground as it is for a trip to town.
See you next week, with yet another wardrobe staple from the upcoming book!
