- Coquille in Ivory Merino Alpaca
I am a firm believer in the design directive, “form follows function”, and Coquille is a perfect example of functionality. I am not a hat person, but ears must be kept cosy; functionally, a simple headband would do the trick.
Coquille is named for the Oregon port settled by French fur traders; they gave the indigenous Native tribe the name, which is the French word for “shell”. The Coquille Indians wore shells as embellishments; the simple cabling of Coquille is decorated with buttons, taking a simple, functional object to the level of gorgeous accessory.
I am so in love with Merino Alpaca. This effortless pattern is a great way to try your hand at simple cabling, i-cord edging, and affords you with the fun opportunity of embellishing...I love buttons! I can see making these as Christmas gifts for a variety of recipients. The new colors of Merino Alpaca will be arriving soon, and a single hank will make two Coquilles...just change up the buttons for a totally different look.
Keep watching for more Textures designs on ravelry and facebook; next week, Sara shares another textural Tour de Force (since we’re speaking with a French accent today...!).
